CommunityServer has similar issues (though r3 has improved the amount of work required considerably). Can't say I was impressed by your "welcome" to their IIRC ... Regardless, my opinion is that there should be an automated mod installation feature to build user-friendliness, which phpBB has lacked at times. The majority of Internet, and forum, users don't even know how to FTP properly, let alone go through mod installations. So something like this would act flexibility.
