Package Tracking Usability

Another good article I’ve found via digg.

This is a usability essay by Thomas Baekdal about online package tracking applications.

I have to say, the situation here in Australia is no better, really.
Most of them give you a lot of information, but don’t really have much that’s useful.

Here’s three I just pulled up:

First, we have Australian air Express’s Track and Trace:
Australian Air Express, Online Package Tracking

Then we have Startrack Express’s Track and Trace:
Startrack Express's Track and Trace
I find it interesting that there’s no initial tracking information - sure it was delivered the next day, but still..

And last, but certainly not least… we have Toll.
Well, we have TWO from Toll, since the first one tells us… well… not much. The two status I have seen are “POD available online”, and “Onboard for Delivery”.

Toll Ipec Track and Trace, 1

Toll Ipec Track and Trace, 2

None of them seem to update very often, or are that timely on their updates.
The tracking information usually isn’t available until 12-24hrs after it has been shipped.

I will give AAE bonus points though for sending me emails confirming the package has been recieved. That’s nice, even if it doesn’t arrive until that night, or three days before.

An Afternoon with Jack Thompson

Interesting article on Destructoid.
Part 1 of “My Afternoon with Jack Thompson” is up now.

I’ll update when I see the other parts go up.

Oh, background info for those not in the know.
