Office Wisdom

This has been floating around at work for a while (although, as a word document), though I doubt this site is the originator, it’s the first copy I could find that was decently formatted.

Distributed File Storage

I had another brainwave on a “cool” bit of software.

Tunneling SSH over HTTP(S)

Posted in Coding by Will on March 13, 2006.

http://www.not404.com/cgi-bin/trac.fcgi/wiki/SSHTunnel

Anyone care to put together a pre-compiled version of this?

Or, preferably an application that combines:

  • SSH Tunneling supporting NTLM for HTTP/HTTPS Proxies
  • PuTTY-like SSH Client
  • Combine a VNC, or Tight-VNC Client or X-Server over SSH

I’d like something that I can input a bunch of settings, and it does the tunneling and/or forwarding for the X stuff.

Them: thats all I saw.

X-Men 3 - New Trailer

X-MEN: THE LAST STAND - Trailer

Quicktime format, per usual. Updated: HD formats (480p/720p/1080p) now available.

Looks very nice, I guess I’ll be seeing this whilst in London :)

Check out Quicktime Alternative or VLC as alternatives to installing Quicktime 7 itself.

Admittedly, Apple’s QT7 installer is significantly less ass-holish, though their insistance on having QTask running is still a pain. Here’s hoping they won’t do an Adobe and force you to use their ’super duper download manager’.

G2 ImageBlock Module

If you use Google Personalised Homepage, and have a Gallery2 photo gallery, then this module I created might be useful for you.
In a sentence, it lets you put images from your (or someone elses) G2 gallery on your homepage.

New Wifi Card for PDA

Got myself a new Wifi card for the PDA.

The last one I had was a D-Link 660W, which started screwing up after ~18 months.

eBay.au: Linksys Instant Wireless Network CF card

So, got a new Linksys card on eBay.

Strike that off the list of things to get (and cheaper than I thought it’d be too - retail is ~120 here)

Mac killed My Inner Child (now with 120% more anti-mac-ness)

Posted in IT, On the Intertron, Teh Funnies by Will on March 7, 2006.

Yes, you have probably already seen this. But it’s still just as funny.

I believe this is all referencing OS 9, so things might’ve changed since OS X came out (since it’s now built on a BSD/Nix core).

“First, EVERYTHING in the parody actually happened. Second, we don’t hate Macs. And finally, Hunter, the guy in the spot, uses a Mac professionally so he’s tired of being called a Windows apologist. Hunter would like to point out that he still owns two working Apple IIe ‘s and has used Macs in one incarnation or another since 1982. He hastens to add ‘Nyaa’.” - from the Happy Nowhere site.

Update #1: Thanks to Aeoth for the Switch to Linux thing. Go watch, more funny-ness.
Update #2:

The world is going crazy. Mike and Gabe from Penny Arcade are both preaching the wonders of the Mac.

NB: Need to check whether Berlin -> Brussels is 1 country on the ticket.

Whacky Japanese stuff (but actually useful)

I wouldn’t normally do this, but really - check these two out.

No, really… that t-shirt folding thing is magic. Now you know how all the t-shirts and business shirts get folded in that weird-ass unnatural way that noone can replicate. (except those who’ve mastered the art of the magic-fold above)
